Private Lessons

All our private sessions are done in your home to address behaviors you live with daily. They are suitable for dogs aged 8 weeks and up. In our hour-long lesson, you will learn effective ways to communicate with your dog, while your dog acquires the essential skills needed to create harmony in the home. These sessions can address a wide variety of issues such as: jumping, barking, leash pulling, counter surfing, play biting, potty training, chewing, crate training, and obedience.

Dogs displaying severe anxiety or aggression are not eligible for private lessons. Rather, they will be evaluated to determine if one of our board and train programs will be a good fit. We do this to maintain the safety of the owners and the trainer.

  • First-time Lesson – 1 Hour – $150
  • Follow-up Lessons – $50
  • Behavioral Evaluation – $150

*A travel fee of $20 will be applied if the home is 20+ miles from Pine Island*

Board & Train

A lesson is required to accept the dog into one of our board and train programs. The lesson fee will act as a deposit for this program once the dog is approved. Each program will be customized to prioritize your goals with your dog. The best fit program for you and your dog will be predetermined by your trainer at the time of your lesson.

These programs run Monday – Friday. We travel to you for both pick-up and drop-off days. Your pup lives and trains with the owner, Tina Havemeier, in our personal home. We can extend their stay to accommodate any travel plans. Added dates run $40/night.

About US

At Pine Island Dog Training, we believe long lasting relationships are formed through mutual trust and respect. Our goal is to give human language to the dog, and dog language to the human. It is imperative we understand one another in order to progress.

As a privately owned, home-based business located in Bokeelia, FL, we travel to you for your in-home private lesson. Dogs who are enrolled in our board and train programs stay with us in our personal home on Pine Island.

Creating a comfortable learning environment is crucial for optimal results. To address desired behaviors effectively at home, we strive to replicate that familiar setting. We firmly believe that this personalized approach enables each dog to adapt more swiftly, resulting in greater retention of information.

Tina Havemeier

Head Trainer

My journey into the world of dog training has been a lifelong passion. Growing up surrounded by dogs, horses, and other animals instilled a deep love for the purity they bring into life. As a Florida native, my experience in the Montana backcountry drove me to pursue a degree in Equine Science at Montana State University.

From there, I worked alongside some of the best mentors in both the equine and canine industries. From starting colts and showing performance horses, to managing large dog training facilities, I gained invaluable experience during my time out west.

Living with up to seven dogs in my own home, I dedicated myself to raising puppies, rehabilitating aggression cases, and fostering rescues. This allowed me to gain an extensive understanding of the unique needs different dog breeds possess.

My passion for animals goes beyond just training. I am committed to immersing myself in the lifestyle of raising, owning, and helping as many dogs as I can get my hands on. This allows me to empathize and connect with my clients on the ups and downs they go through in their own journey. I understand the challenges and rewards that come with this, and I am committed to providing the best possible guidance for both pets and their owners.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which vaccinations are required?

Proof of Rabies, Bordetella, Distemper and Parvo are required for any dog enrolled in a Board and Train program. Any dog vaccinated less then one week before their scheduled stay will be required to postpone their training.

Q: How many hours a day is my dog ‘training’ during a board and train?

The short answer is: the entire stay. There is “active” learning and “inactive” learning. Your pup is absorbing information, whether they are resting in their crate or actively learning how to walk on a leash. Some dogs need more time actively learning, while others need more time to rest and digest what they’ve learned. Much like our own children, each dog learns at a different rate of speed. It is our job to recognize who your dog is and create a curriculum that works best with them and the goals you have in mind.

Q: During their Board and Train where will my dog sleep at night?

A: We have a climate controlled dog room attached to our home with Ruffland Kennels. For safety, every dog is required to sleep in a Ruffland crate to prevent injury or self harm. The room is equipped with security cameras to keep an extra watch on your pup at all hours. The room is attached to our main home to ensure safety in case of an emergency.

Q: Can I bring a bed for my dog’s stay?

A: We allow blankets only for bedding. Puppies and Adult dogs that are not fully potty trained or have a history of tearing OR ingesting foreign objects will NOT be allowed bedding for safety purposes. If you do not bring your own blanket, we will provide plenty of bedding for your pup.

Q: Should I bring any toys for my dog’s stay?
A: Bring their top 3 favorite toys to play with! Toys will be provided otherwise.
Q: What happens if I can’t pick up my dog on their last training day?
A: Not a problem, we understand things happen, especially when traveling. You can extend your dog’s stay for $40/night.
Q: Should I include my spouse or kids in our training session?
A: We encourage you to include any family members who are interested in supporting your new routine with your pup!
Q: What type of payments do you accept?
A: We accept Cash, Check, or Venmo
Q: Can I come visit my dog during their board and train?

We believe owner visitations add an unneccesary stressor onto your dog’s visit. Your presence creates excitment, then your absence creates anxiety. As nice as it is to see your dog, unfortunately they don’t understand why we come and why we go. This means your dog must mentally adjust to the environment all over again and can hinder the progress made on training. To avoid this, we do not allow visitations but can empathize on how much you miss your pup. We will gladly send as many photos and videos of their stay upon request.
